      • Thrift store manager

        MCHS is seeking an experienced general manager for its large, busy thrift store. The manger will bring solid retail management experience, and ensure excellent customer service; a well-organized, clean and efficient retail operation; smooth donation intake, sorting, pricing and displaying and creating a fun place to shop. The manager also will oversee increases in store revenue year over year. The manager also will be hands-on with the team, as well as work with corporate management to improve and advance store operations and profitability. The manager must be flexible and able to manage a diverse group of employees and volunteers who handle a broad-ranging and ever-changing, donated store inventory.


        The ideal candidate will have five to ten years of experience as a retail manager, with experience in managing a thrift store a significant plus. Must be willing to regularly work on weekends. 


        Success with using/overseeing online sales through EBay or other reseller platform very desirable. This position is a hands-on member of the store team, able to make smart, quick decisions, lift 50 lbs. and work standing all day. The successful candidate also will pass a mandatory background check.


        Other responsibilities include:

        • Ensuring that merchandise is moving efficiently and effectively from donation to sale,
        • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, customer service, merchandise displays, and merchandise rotation.
        • Ensuring staff is efficiently performing their duties, and that customers are receiving friendly, attentive service.
        • Addressing customer issues in a professional manner, and finding resolutions.
        • Providing staff and volunteers with oversight, assistance and guidance.
        • Supervising and ensuring thorough and accurate cash drawer openings and closings
        • Establishing, following and enforcing safety standards for staff, volunteers and customers
        • Working with the landlord regarding any building issues.

      • Thrift store sales and receiving clerk

        Large, busy thrift store in Rockville, MD seeks hardworking, flexible individual to work as a store and receiving clerk. Will consider part-time or full-time, depending on specific experience.


        Duties include, but are not limited to

        • donation day set-up and tear-down
        • accepting donations from the public
        •  sorting incoming inventory and delivering it to the appropriate area for processing
        • stocking shelves and creating pleasing displays
        • regularly straightening inventory and cleaning the store
        • assisting customers and the cashier
        • help maintain Covide-19 safety protocols.

        Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. is a requirement of the position. Experience as a cashier, experience in merchandising, and experience in a thrift or second-hand retail store highly desirable. The successful candidate will be a flexible, positive, energetic and proactive team player, as well as a fast learner who is capable of working independently. Availability to work on weekends is a must.


        Full- or part-time position
