About Us

Rescue Animals:

The MCHS Rescue was opened and established exclusively as an overflow shelter for animals from the County Animal Shelter. The facility provided by our local government through the contract 30 years ago is insufficient in space and has not grown to support our growing constituency. The overflow rescue facility supports our underlying philosophy that animals should have a second chance regardless of appearance or health. It utilizes state of the art technology to provide a safe and healthy environment for dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small companion animals.

Hello all! My name is Percy/Rescue and I’m a 7-year-old neutered male Tibetan spaniel mix (probably with Pomeranian). I’m a small, compact fellow weighing in about 17 lbs. My long hair is the prettiest coloring of sable and black. I am being cared for at the MCHS Private Rescue.

I love riding in the car and looking out of all the windows, but I prefer to ride shotgun with my paws perched on the dashboard looking out at where we are headed. When my foster mom tells me that I need to sit down, I think about it for a few seconds and then obey. I also walk nicely on a leash. In my new home I only ask for one thing -- no cats or bunnies -- I have a tendency to chase them. My Foster Mom lets me have free run of the house when she's at work because I have such good manners.

One of my favorite things to do is go for long walks (even if it's raining). I whine to tell foster mom when it’s time to go “outside”. I’m great with kids over 9 (as long as they have dog experience) -- I tend to be jumpy when I get excited. My ideal home environment would be with another dog and possibly a backyard to go exploring, but not necessary if I’m leash-walked at least 4 times a day.

If you are interested in visiting come on by and see him or call for more information.

Since this is one of our senior dogs, the adopter will receive a $75 coupon that can be used towards future veterinary visits. In addition, the adopter will get a $50.00 discount off the regular adoption fee.

Willy/Rescue is a very active 2 ½ year old neutered male Weimaraner being cared for at the MCHS Private Rescue. Weimaraners are fast and powerful dogs, but are also suitable home animals given appropriate training & exercise. They are also highly intelligent, sensitive and problem-solving animals. According to his give up sheet, Willy knows the commands sit and shake. He let his owners know when he had to go outside to go to the bathroom. He likes adults and gets along with other dogs. He is also used to cats. He likes to play chase the ball. He likes riding in the car and be brushed and groomed. He has never bitten anyone and was given up because his owners couldn’t care for him anymore. If you would like to add this great dog to your family come on by and see him or call for more information.

Turbo/Rescue, Shadow/Rescue, and Sox/Rescue. These 3 ferrets are being cared at the MCHS Private Rescue.  They are nice and like to be petted and held.  They all get along with other ferrets.  They can be adopted separately or together.  They make great pets.  If you would like to adopt any of them, come by and see them or call for more information.
Rocket/Rescue is an adorable chocolate male Labrador retriever mix. He likes adults, children, and dogs. He likes to ride in the car. He is a typical puppy and loves to chew on his toys and play. Since he is a puppy, he will need to be adopted to a home where there is an adult home all day to train and socialized him so he grows up to be a well mannered, responsible adult dog. Labradors make great family dogs. If you have the time and energy for this bundle of joy come by and see him or call for more information.
Stone/Rescue is a nice, adorable 2 year old male cat that needs a special home. He is Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) positive which means he can not go to a household where there are other cats. It is important to realize that a positive test for FIV is not a mandatory death sentence; an FIV-positive cat can lead a reasonably normal life span. FIV does not lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome in cats as often as human immunodeficiency virus leads to AIDS in people. If you are looking for only one cat to add to your household and do not currently have any cats, come by and see him or call for more information. He deserves to have a good forever home too.
Bread/Rescue is 2 year old male cat being cared for at the MCHS Private Rescue.  He was at the shelter for a couple of months and is still waiting for his forever home.  He is a sweet, affectionate cat and would make a great addition to a loving home.  He always uses his litter box and gets along with other cats.  If you would like to adopt this handsome guy, come by and see him or call for more information.
Frank/Rescue is an 8 year old neutered male Pointer. He was a very scared boy when he arrived here at the MCHS Private Rescue but is much better now. He knows the commands sit, come, and stay. He let his owners know when he had to go outside for the bathroom and didn’t go inside the house. He likes adults and children. He is an active guy and likes to play fetch. He likes to ride in the car and be brushed and groomed. He had an evaluation from one of our experienced evaluator and she found that he walks calmly on his leash. He appears to be housetrained. He is not overly demonstrative but very sweet and will give gentle kisses and gently seeks out petting. He is an excellent dog for a calm household looking for a sweet companion. He will need to be adopted to a home where there are no children under 16 years old and to owners that have dog experience. He also needs to attend obedience classes. If you would like this gentle guy for your household come by and see him or call for more information.

Since this is one of our senior dogs, the adopter will receive a $75 coupon that can be used towards future veterinary visits. In addition, the adopter will get a $50.00 discount off the regular adoption fee.

Juice/Rescue is a TOP CAT! Our TOP CATS come highly recommended by MCHS staff and volunteers and deserve a good home soon. Juice is a great cat and a staff favorite! A big cuddler, this girl purrs non-stop. Juice loves people and likes nothing better than to sit on or near you. For more information about this great girl, please come by and see her or call for more information.

Midnight/Rescue has not had a very good life so far. She was kept outside and has had no training or no attention. Midnight has heartworms because she wasn't kept on the monthly preventative pill. Heartworm is treated with a series of 2 or 3 shots given over 30-45 days, during which Midnight will need to have leash-walks only (no jumping or jarring activities). She is a sweet 5 year old female Rottweiler/Shepherd mix. She had an evaluation and they found her to be assertive. She likes to be in change and needs structure and consistency. She is confident and likely to be comfortable in new situations. She does not react well to small dogs on a leash though. She is a high energy, very active dog that needs an outlet for her energy. She is independent. She is a resource guarder and protects food and toys. Because of this she is not a good match for families with small children. She is strong willed. She is tolerant, patient, and accepting of excessive physical contact. She will need to be adopted to a home where there are no children and her new adopters need to take her to obedience classes and have a quiet home with dog experience. If you are the ones for her, come by and see her or call for more information. She deserves a second chance.
Alpha/Rescue is a young male rabbit being cared for at the MCHS Private Rescue.  He is a little rex shorthair who likes to be held and petted.   He came in with another rabbit named Beta/Rescue.  Rabbits make great pets.  If you would like to add this soft, furry rabbit to your household, come by and see him or call for more information.

She likes to go for walks and play with toys. She needs someone that can give her some attention and spend some time with her. She is an active dog. She is current on her shots and ready for her forever home. She was given up because her owners couldn’t afford to keep her. If you can give her the forever home she longs for, come by and see her or call for more information.

He gets along with adults, children, cats and dogs. He is a calm cat. He is friendly and has never bitten or scratched anyone. He was given up because his owners are moving.
