How to

License

Your Pet

Licensing is available to the public in the shelter lobby during our normal business hours.

To purchase a pet license, please mail or bring the following to: MCHS, 14645 Rothgeb Drive, Rockville, MD. 20850

1. A completed pet registration application, available from your veterinarian, print out this pdf, or call 240.773.5946 to request an application be mailed to you.

2. A current rabies vaccination certificate; vaccination must be good for 60 days from the date you apply for the license.

3. A check or money order for the license fee. Please make check or money order payable to Montgomery County, Maryland.

License Fees

Unaltered dogs/cats over one (1) year old:
$75 for a three (3) year license
$25 for a one (1) year license

Altered dogs/cats over one (1) year old:
$32 for a three (3) year license
$12 for a one (1) year license

All dogs/cats under one (1) year old:
No charge, but the animal must have a county license.

Waivers of the higher unaltered fees will be given for animals certified by a veterinarian as unable to be altered because of age or health.

Public Assistance recipients pay reduced fees for licenses (altered pets only).

You Do Not Have to Purchase a County License if...

You are a resident of the City of Rockville or the City of Gaithersburg.

However, you are required to license your pet with your local Department of Animal Control. Please call your local agency for licensing information.
