Foster Program
Adoption
Process And
Fees
It is through your willingness to open your hearts and your homes that we are able to give an animal a second chance in life.
|
The Foster Adoption Process |
| Visit with the pet you are interested in adopting. |
| Fill out an adoption application. The more information you can provide on the application the quicker the process. |
| The application then goes to the adoption desk for processing. |
| All family members will need to visit with the animal before the application is processed. |
| The adoption desk will complete the application process in about 5-7 days. |
They will call the vet and make sure any current pets you may have are up to date with a rabies shot.
|
| If you are renting, they will confirm with the landlord that pets are allowed and what the pet deposit will be. |
| The application will be assigned to one of our adoption counselors for an interview. |
| If you are adopting a dog, a home visit will be conducted. |
| If you are adopting a cat and have never owned a cat before, a home visit will be conducted. |
| If you are adopting a cat and have had a cat before, the adoption counselor will most likely do a phone interview. This will be up to the discretion of the counselor. They still might choose to do a home visit. |
| Once the Adoption Counselor completes your interview, they will let you know whether or not you are approved. |
If you are approved, the adoption desk will contact you to set up a time and day for you to come in to sign your adoption contract and take your new friend home. |

What the Adoption Fee Covers
|
The Adoption Fees listed below include flea treatment, de-worming, distemper vaccinations, rabies vaccination for dogs and cats over the age of 4 months, bordatella, heartworm (dogs) or FELV/FIV testing (cats), spay/neuter (dogs and cats), ID tag, and micro-chip.
All dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens 2 months or older will be surgically sterilized before adoption. Every effort will be made for all dogs and cats, regardless of age, to be altered. however, based on the veterinarian's recommendation, some animals may not be sterilized prior to placement. Adopters of unaltered animals who live in Montgomery County will sign a sterilization agreement and will have 30 days to spay/neuter the animal -- unless they are adopting an opposite sex pair. In this case, as least one of the pair must be neutered before adoption. Out-of-county adopters, will need to wait until the animal is sterilized before taking the animal home. |
