| Volunteer Coordinator
Reports to: Shelter Manager
Job Criteria:
• Strong animal handling skills
• Must be organized and able to work in a team environment
• Excellent customer service skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Familiar with shelter operations
The successful candidate will be an energetic self-starter who is detail oriented and demonstrates initiative in growing the volunteer program. The candidate should be able to multi-task and have strong interpersonal skills. The volunteer coordinator position involves recruitment, supervision and training of volunteers to assist MCHS in a variety of areas. In addition, policies and procedures must be communicated clearly and often to staff and volunteers to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers and the animals.
The volunteer coordinator will work closely with all departments to develop volunteer support in all areas including but not limited to: kennels and cat rooms, front office, special events, photography, social media, thrift store, and foster.
The volunteer coordinator is a very public position in the organization, and as such will serve as a strong ambassador for MCHS, its programs and its work.
The volunteer coordinator will develop a plan to expand the volunteer program, incorporating “best practices” from other shelters in the following areas: recruiting and orienting new volunteers, maintaining relationships with current volunteers, strengthening relationships between staff and volunteers, and maximizing volunteer resources throughout the organization. In addition, the volunteer coordinator will be responsible to ensure that all potential volunteers are quickly contacted, properly oriented and trained for their positions to maximize their work with and commitment to MCHS and its work.
