Animal Fighting

Incidents in Maryland

November 13, 2007:  Two men charged with arranging, conducting or using a dog to fight after law enforcement found a pit bull suffering from lacerations in St. Inigoes, St. Mary’s County.

November 6, 2007: A raid on Go Hard Kennels in Prince Georges County, MD led to the seizure of 11 dogs suspected of fighting and one man charged.

October 30, 2007: A search warrant was executed in Baltimore leading to the seizure of 5 dogs and the discovery of a dogfighting pit.

September, 2007: Baltimore City creates a Dogfighting Task Force.

September 7, 2007: In Severna Park, MD 2 people were arrested, 5 pit bulls and $3,500 worth of crack cocaine were seized in a dogfighting raid.
August 17, 2007: In Baltimore City, MD, a raid on a suspected drug dealer yielded a stash of cocaine, heroine, marijuana, a loaded revolved and 2 pit bulls, weights, chains, and other equipment used to train dogs for fighting.
July, 2007: Baltimore City, MD, police found 3 pit bulls, including a puppy whose ears were cropped to nubs, a woman was keeping for a 17 year old boy in exchange for drugs. Neighbors reported the dogs were used for fighting.

June 14, 2007: 113 gamefowl were impounded on the property at a gamefowl farm in Prince George’s County, MD.  An old cockfighting pit, as well as cockfighting paraphernalia, was found on the scene. 

June, 2007: In Baltimore City, MD, police find 5 malnourished pit bulls in a pitch black basement with fighting scars. The residents of the house are also wanted in connection with armed carjacking and shooting.

May 15, 2007: In Baltimore City, MD a dog was found tied to a tree in Patterson Park with over 100 bite wounds and three broken bones. The veterinarians who treated her suspected she was used for fighting.

May, 2007: Police in Baltimore City, MD found 7 dogs, 4 puppies, and a gun in a abandoned rowhouse used to house fighting dogs and for drug deals. 

April, 2007: In Baltimore City, police found a pit bull who was doused with hot cooking oil during a dogfight. The owner was a 16 year old boy who had stolen the dog. The dog was injured so severely that he was euthanized.

July 8, 2006: Two dogs were found abandoned in Damascus, MD. They were believed to have been fought. They were severely injured and one was immediately euthanized. 
April 19, 2006: A Gaithersburg, MD man was arrested when neighbors suspicious of dogfighting reported him. 13 dogs were seized along with drugs and a sawed off shotgun.
March 17, 2006: Police seized over 50 roosters in Prince Georges County as part of a cockfighting investigation.

March 24, 2005 Two men were arrested in Anne Arundel County on dogfighting charges. Police find injured

dogs with bleeding wounds from their mouths.

June 24, 2004 Wicomico County Police responded to a call about a dead dog floating in a pond with a cinder block tied to the animal. Police believed the dog was killed as a result of losing a fight.

March 31, 2004: Police searched for a suspect who was charged with dogfighting in Baltimore City. The suspect is also believed to have shot and killed a police officer and assaulted his girlfriend.
May 19, 2003:   Police busted a pit bull fighting ring in Prince Georges County.  10 dogs were euthanized.  The suspect was also arrested for assaulting his girlfriend.
Jan. 8, 2003:    Montgomery County police searched for two men they say have been involved in holding dog fights in Gaithersburg, MD.
August, 2002: Police busted a dogfighting ring in Montgomery County, MD where video taped events of young pit bull puppies being forced to fight were found.

July, 2002: Two people were charged for making pit bulls fight each other. Both faced charges of arranging a dog fight. According to charging documents, the two young men conducted a fight between the dogs on June 24. 

Jan 11, 2002: A Gaithersburg, MD man pled guilty to dogfighting after police find two dead pit bulls in his apartment.
May 22, 2001:  Police seized 12 dogs in sweep; operation aimed at illegal dogfighting in Severn, MD.
