Our

Special Needs

Animals

MCHS has established a special fund to support those animals that are in need of extra care and medical treatment.  The fund was named in memory of a very special dog named Joey, who in his short life touched us all. To read more about Joey, click on the button to the left.

The following are special need animals that require extra medical care and/or a special home.

Your generous support can help these wonderful pets find their happy endings!

Bronze

Bronze is an incredibly sweet, easy-going guy with lots of love to give.  He has luxuriously soft fur,big astonishingly bright green eyes, and a strong loud purr.  He is an 8 year old, de-clawed, 15 pound neutered male DSH with diabetes.

Bronze is a relaxed kitty cat that loves ear rubs, chin rubs and surprisingly, tummy rubs.  Bronze is not worried about his two insulin injections a day because they just
mean more chin rubs and back scratching. He is even happy to let his foster do the in home blood test on his ear when needed. He is grateful for every kind word, touch, and look you give him.

Bronze will require an owner that is willing to feed him his high
protein low carb diet on a daily schedule, administer his insulin, and keep up with vet visits to stabilize his diabetes.  He is currently in a foster home living with children and dogs purring away waiting to meet
you.  Contact Julie at 301-775-4272 or email tjrand@earthlink.net

Ruby

Ruby is a small 10-month-old female bischon-mix with an under-bite. She was the runt of the litter and given-up because of financial reasons. Ruby arrived in poor condition, low energy, and was very underweight. In just a week of proper care and diet, an energetic puppy emerged!

Ruby is friendly with new people and other dogs. She walks great on the leash and will need two fifteen to thirty minute walks a day. Ruby also loves down time and will happily snuggle in your arms.

Ruby had some intestinal problems in the past and needs a natural high quality diet for the rest of her life. Also, she sometimes has abnormal vocalizations which may be a sign of a neurological problem. New adopters will need to monitor the vocalizations and be prepared to consult a neurologist if the problem progresses.

Ruby has some behavior issues to work on such as potty training and heel nipping. She grew up with a big dog and would like a home with another dog (preferably medium size to large!) that she can play with.

Ruby would do best in a home with children over 16 years-old. If you would like to meet Ruby, call 240-483-2846 or email aowen@mchumane.org. Lots of love in store!
