A Grand Success!

| Our participation in the Bloomingdale’s Charity Shopping Benefit was a success! On February 27 from 10 am-10 pm, all three metro area Bloomingdale’s stores (White Flint, Chevy Chase, and Tyson’s Corner) generously offered 15-20% storewide discounts to shoppers who turned in an advance ticket marked for one of the participating charities. |

The challenge was to have a minimum of 100 of our supporters turn in a ticket marked specifically for the Montgomery County Humane Society. Drumroll…we did it! Out of the six charities that participated, we scored 2nd place with a total of 166 tickets.
Shoppers enjoyed special festivities such as a designer duds fashion show with Maryland Bichon Frise Rescue, and a wholesome pet food cooking demonstration by Rudy Edalati, author of Barker’s Grub.

“Why is Maryland Bichon Frise Rescue supporting MCHS?” wrote fashion show coordinator and Bichon Rescue volunteer Jill Siegel to her bichon list. “Because we have developed an excellent relationship with them."
Before we get the dog, MCHS is very generous in taking care of many medical procedures for the dogs: spaying or neutering, getting all shots current, microchipping, testing for heartworm, Lyme disease, etc. This saves Bichon Rescue a lot of money, allowing us to help that many more dogs.” |

Bloomingdale’s donated $5 for each ticket designated for MCHS and we qualified to share the proceeds from tickets purchased at the door on the day of the event – another $2,595. This qualifies us to participate in next year’s event.
Bloomingdale’s also made a contribution to cover the cost of mailing the invitations, with our total net earnings for the project just under $4,800.

Proceeds are being used to benefit the MCHS No-Cost and Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Program in celebration of Spay Day USA.
We had fun coordinating with Girl Scout Troop #4972, Bethesda, and Junior Girl Scout Troop #3193, Germantown, to stuff the envelopes, along with our own promotional efforts, recruiting volunteers and working the event itself.
Thanks to everyone who helped us directly with this event and who supported us by visiting one of the stores to turn in a ticket. Way to go, team! |
