What A Golden Half-Century Of Compassion It’s Been! Montgomery County residents have become ever-more responsible pet parents throughout these decades. Our mission of providing humane education, giving shelter, preventing pain and cruelty, and placing all animals in appropriate environments has a long and progressive history.
As we observe our year-long celebration, we want to hear about your memories. Part of our tribute will be to collect your stories and share them through publications, on our website, other media and events. We especially want to hear from friends with memories from the early years, and memories of your adopted friends.

Do You Remember When…?
The county animal shelter was located on Brookville Road?
The first Paws in the Park was held?
Montgomery County officials were honored for the first successful prosecution of a felony animal cruelty case in Maryland?
MCHS first went to bat at County Council meetings to support a strong spay/neuter law?
Maryland outlawed dogfighting?
Wagging Tails Thrift Shop opened?

| Write us a letter about your recollections, and send pictures, too! Don’t forget to tell us about your own special adoptees, the MCHS Alumni. We will compile and edit selected narratives to share with all of our supporters later in the year. See the submission guidelines below. And get ready for our next 50 years of compassion and responsible pet care. |
Memories are made of this…
Submission guidelines |
| You may send either typed or email letters. |
The subject can be anything from a story about MCHS in general (like the list above) or about a special animal who became part of your life as an adopted pet, foster or rescue. When in doubt, please write about it!
|
| There is no limit to the number of stories you may submit, but we cannot guarantee that any or all of your information will be used, or in what format. Your submission constitutes your agreement that the Montgomery County Humane Society reserves the right to select which stories to publish, and has your permission to publish your materials in whatever format it chooses, including our blog. We also reserve the right to edit for both content and space. |
| Length may vary according to how many stories and how much information you want to share. Maximum length for each separate story is about 250 words (that’s about one double-spaced typed page using a standard 12-point font like Times New Roman for those of you who count kibbles). |
| Photos, old news clippings, and other delicate visual materials should be scanned and converted to a digital file that you can email to us. The best formats are .jpg or .gif. If you send original materials, we cannot guarantee they will be returned, or that they will be returned in their original condition. Therefore, please make every effort to create a digital file if at all possible. |
For email, please send your memories (and any questions) to
b j Altschul, Project Director. For snail mail or in-person deliveries, address your items to MCHS 50th Anniversary Project, 14645 Rothgeb Dr., Rockville, MD 20850.
Be sure to include your name, address, telephone number, and – if you have one – email address. Please print clearly. We cannot use materials from unidentifiable submissions. |
